Workplace Learning Resource Center (WpLRC)

The Workplace Learning Resource Center (WpLRC) specializes in providing targeted job skills training and retraining to assist businesses and individuals in their efforts to remain competitive in the global marketplace. Customized training is provided to employers on-site at the company location.

The El Camino College WpLRC provides comprehensive programs of education and training designed for success in the workplace. In order to meet the ever-growing need for fundamental skills, our main focus is on providing employees with Basic Skills education in reading, writing and math, and English as a Second Language (ESL). Other services include:

  • Employment-related assessment and training programs designed to satisfy the identified requirements of mid-career professionals, displaced individuals, students and employees from public and private organizations
  • Workplace Computer Skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, QuickBooks
  • Customer Service Skills Training
  • Training in team building, problem solving, sexual harassment prevention, conflict management

Specialized Programs

  • Maritime Industry Training Program

    The WpLRC provides U.S. Coast Guard STCW Certification training in Basic Safety, Lifeboat and Tankerman classifications for incumbent and prospective workers in the maritime industry.

  • Career Readiness Certificate using the ACT WorkKeysTM

    The WpLRC offers a Career Readiness Certificate to provide job seekers and employers with a standardized and reliable indicator of a job applicant’s foundation skills in applied mathematics, reading for information and locating information.

The mission of the WpLRC at El Camino College is to upgrade California’s workforce through quality education and services focusing on continuous workforce improvement, technology and business development.
